Abstract
Objective To investigate and analyze the incidence of asthenopia among officers and soldiers of a level - two hospital and an engineering battalion in Lebanon during their peacekeeping missions, and to provide the reference for the eye care and prevention of asthenopia. Methods Conventional ophthalmologic examination and questionnaire were carried out among the officers and soldier of the seventh batch of peacekeeping medical corps and the eighth patch of peacekeeping engineering battalion during their peacekeeping missions in Lebanon from March 1, 2011 to October 20, 2011. The investigated situations included background information, the history of eye diseases, the habits of using eyes, the habits watching computer and video, sports, and asthenopia symptoms. The results were statistically analyzed. Results There were totally 159 subjects receiving the investigation. Their average age was 30 years old ranging from 21 to 51 years old. There were 142 male ones who accounted for 89. 3% and 17 female ones who accounted for 10.7%. Among those subjects, the average time for computer was 5. 5 h every day; the incidence of computer vision syndrome( CVS )was 72. 3%. The incidence of rational symptoms in order were eye distension and eyes sorness,eye dryness,fatigue in hand,shoulder,foot, and waist, eye itching, blurred vision, eye pain, pinkeye, eye foreign body sensation, photophobia, dizziness and headache,ghosting, and nausea and vomiting. Conclusion The incidence of CVS is high, and the symptoms are diversified. The refractive error,close distance between eye and display screen,and long time watching display screen will induce and/or aggravate the condition of CVS. Eye protection should be strengthened in our peacekeeping forces in Lebanon in order to reduce the incidence of asthenopia and improve the eye health among the officers and soldiers.关键词
