Latest Development of Study on Sustainable Tourism in Foreign Countries

Abstract
Since the concept of sustainable development had been proposed in the late 1980s, sustainable tourism development STD) , as an important practice form of sustainable development, has attracted much interest of scholars. Based on an extensive literature in recent 10 years, the paper carries a systematic review of foreign sustainable tourism research. Research shows that foreign scholars mostly focus on the following aspects: what the understanding of STD is, what the main development models of STD are, how to assess tourism sustainability, which the stakeholders of STD are and their basic characteristics, ecotourism and sustainable development, how the science, technology, climate, policy and other factors affect STD. Based on the above analyses, the paper points out that on the one hand, the future sustainable tourism research should pay more attention to the synthesis application especially the cross application of different disciplines theory, and on the other hand it should pay more attention to the comprehensive integrated application of different research methods. In view of this, the paper argues that scholars of sustainable tourism research must have a broader vision and profound academic accomplishment, in order to research on both macro and micro perspective and analyze from surface to essence perspectives and from static to dynamic perspectives.关键词
