Peripheral Neuropathy in Seven Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis

Abstract
Objective To investigate the clinical features and prognosis of rheumatoid arthritis ( RA) associated with multiple peripheral neuropathy and to raise awareness of the disease. Methods A retrospective analysis of clinical data from seven cases of rheumatoid arthritis with peripheral neuropathy. Results seven patients all showed various degrees of limb muscle strength decline and significantly increased erythrocyte sedimentation rate , C reactive protein , rheumatoid factor. Electromyography revealed neurogenic injury in all patients. Patients were given glucocorticoid and immunosuppressants treatment, and 2 cases were treated with etanercept. The inflammatory markers were improved significantly, symptoms of numbness of the limbs, distal hypoesthesia were improved as well. However , muscle atrophy , wristdrop and footdrop didn ' t show Significant changes. Conclusions The early symptom of multiple peripheral neuropathy associated with RA is not obvious, and is easily overlooked, even leading to irreversible consequence. Early diagnosis and treatment is important for good prognosis.关键词
