Abstract

The throughput of point-to-point link for wireless sensor networks is studied using cross-layer optimization. Firstly, the theoretical throughput expressions is derived. To maximize the throughput, a mathematical optimization framework based on hierarchical optimization is adopted. And then the optimal symbol rate, the optimal constellation size in physical layer and the optimal packet in MAC layer are derived. According to these optimization variables, the cross-layer design can be used for throughput optimization. Finally, an adaptive cross-layer optimization strategy is proposed. Simulation results show that the throughput is significantly improved with the cross-layer design compared with traditional hierarchical optimization.
