Abstract

A series of phosphors KCaM(PO4)2:Dy3+ (M = La, Y, Lu) were synthesized by a high temperature solid state reaction method. The result by X-ray diffraction indicated that KCaM(PO4)2:Dy3+ (M = La, Y, Lu) belongs to a hexagonal system (P6222 space group), and the angle of the peaks shift to a small value with the increase of the metal cations (M) radius. The spectral analysis of KCaM(PO4)2:Dy3+ (M = La, Y, Lu) at low temperatures showed that the emission peaks were different under different excitation wavelengths in the same host, which would due to that two crystallographic sites of Dy3+ in KCaM(PO4)2 crystal. In KCaM(PO4)2 phosphors with different metal cations (M), the emission spectra of Dy3+ ions were different, showing that the metal cations (M) changed the crystal field and affected the proportion of the two sites. It was indicated that Dy3+ could be used as a probe to explore the change of host crystal structure.
