Abstract

The rod-like anatase (TiO2) was prepared by a hydrothermal method with commercial TiO2 (P25) as original materials. The C60/TiO2 nanocomposites were subsequently fabricated via a chemical adsorption route. The samples obtained were characterized by X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, high resolution transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, respectively. The photocatalytic activities of as-prepared samples were evaluated under UV light irradiation using Rhodamine B (RhB) as a probe molecule. The results indicate that the introduction of a small amount of C60 in TiO2 can enhance the photocatalytic activity, and l%C60/TiO2 nanocomposite exhibits the optimum photocatalytic performance. The enhanced photoactivity for this nanocomposite was due to the electron-accepting and electron-transport property of C60 that inhibited the recombination rate of photogenerated electron-hole pairs.
