Abstract

In order to improve the attractiveness of sex pheromone to male moths, the electroantennogram (EAG) responses of Prodenia litura to four plant volatile compounds, four plant leaf extracts and the combination of that and sex pheromone was determined. The results indicated that these plant volatiles could irritate P. litura to emerge the EAG responses. Along with the concentration of volatiles increasing, EAG responses of P. litura were on the rise which was aroused by parts of plant volatiles and were on the rise at frist and then decreasing by another parts. The EAG responses of P. litura to sex pheromone could be improved by the single plant volatiles, however the two or more than two compounds mixed with sex pheromone, just when phenylacetaldehyde and gaultherolin existed at the same time, the EAG responses could be improved, absence of any one of those, it would have low effectiveness to sex pheromone. These results will provide important scientific basis for continuing to develop the attractant or sex pheromone synergist of P. litura.
