Abstract

Front bumper is the main energy-absorbing component during the vehicle 100% frontal crash process. Design optimization of a SUV bumper structure was carried out based on Tailor Rolled Blank (TRB) technology,in order to achieve the purpose of reducing solder joints, the number of automotive parts, manufacturing processes and improving the structural energy-absorbing capacity. Studies have shown that the stiffness of the new bumper based on TRB technical design method was increased, and more kinetic energy absorbed in the collision process, which causing the deformation and peak acceleration of the vehicle reduced. Therefore,the vehicle's crashworthiness performance is improved.
