Abstract

The rheological properties of compound pastes with cement-fly ash-limestone powder were determined by a rotation vis-cometer (mode Rheolab QC). The influences of the content and particle size of limestone powder on the yield stress, plastic viscosity and thixotropy of the compound pastes were investigated. The results show that the yield stress, plastic viscosity and thixotropy increase with the increase of limestone powder content and the decrease of particle size of limestone powder in the compound pastes. The cement-fly ash-limestone compound pastes appeared a shear thinning behavior when the shear rate increased. The plastic viscosity of pastes became stable when the shear rate further increased. The addition of limestone powder could cause the compound pastes from shear thinning to stable with the increased shear rate. The addition of 20%-40% (in mass) limestone powder could improve the rheological properties and the stability of the cement-fly ash pastes.
