Abstract

Transformation and rotation of aluminum particle occurred during its motion in solid rocket motor and so as to generate non-spherical particles. For the problem of forces acting on non-spherical particles, numerical simulation was employed to calculate and analyze forces acting on the particles whose initial radius was 100 u,m in the cases of different shapes and rotation angles. The results show that the shape is far divergent from the sphere,both the pressure difference and viscous drag coefficient at the surface of the particle are greater than the calculation results in the case of equivalent diameter. The total drag coefficient is quite different from the result obtained from empirical formula, which needs to modify. In the direction parallel to the incoming flow, the maximal difference of the particle drag coefficients is 5% with variable rotation angles. The maximal difference of the particles viscous drag coefficients is 18.9% . In the direction vertical to the incoming flow,with variable angles,the lift coefficient is very small, even not more than 20% of the parallel direction.
