Abstract
Objective To evaluate the results and side effects of three dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3DCRT) for esophageal carcinoma. Methods Fifty - eight patients with esophageal carcinoma were treated with 3DCRT, and another 62 patients treated by conventional fractionation radiotherapy (CF group). Results The 1 - , 2 - , 3 - year local control rates of 3DCRT were 69. 3% , 61. 2% and 43. 5% , compared with 51. 3% , 42. 1% and 34. 1% in CF group(P = 0.023). And the survival rates in 1 - , 2 - , 3 - year of 3DCRT group were 61. 5% , 50.7% and 41.6% , as compared with 48. 2% , 42. 1% and 31. 0% in CF group(F = 0. 032). However, in the 3DCRT group, the incidence of acute radiation esophagitis was higher(P = 0.008) and those of hematogenous side effects and body symptom were lower(P = 0.012, P = 0. 028). Conclusion Compared with conventional fractionation radiotherapy, 3DCRT is able to improve the local control rates and survival rates of esophageal carcinoma.关键词
