Analysis on the Influence of Balance Drum Gap Sizes on Axial Balanced Capacity in Multistage Pumps

Abstract

Flow conditions of six gap sizes were analyzed by the method of CFD simulation, and the pressure field and velocity field were predicted. The simulation results show that, the relationship between balance drum gap and differential pressure both sides of the gap is nonlinear, so is the relationship between balance drum gap and gap leakage. By which the rationality of the leakage calculation formula is validated. It is found that balance drum gap size has great influence on both axial balanced capacity and gap leakage. On the premise of guaranteeing safe running, smaller gap size is better.
