Synthesis of β-Sialon Powders from Fly Ash and Kaolin

Abstract
β-Sialon powder with different z values was synthesized using fly ash and kaolin as the starting materials by carbothermal reduction and nitridation.Phases and microstructure of the product were analyzed by X-ray diffractometer and scanning electron microscope.The results show that β-Sialon with z value of 3 (Si3Al3O3N5) was synthesized using the starting material with Si/Al ratio of 1.5 and 100% excessive carbon content at 1450 ℃ for 6 h, and the microstructure of the powder was fibrous.β-Sialon with z value of 2 (Si4Al2O2N6) was obtained with Si/Al ratio of 1.7 and the 150% excessive carbon content at 1450 ℃ for 6 h, and the microstructure of this powder was fibrous and slabby.关键词
