Abstract
Objective To evaluate the efficacy of the anterior and antero - posterior approaches for patients with L5 ~ S1 vertebral tuberculosis and their quality of life. Methods Clinical data of 17 patients with L5 ~ S1 tuberculosis having been treated surgically from January 2004 to May 2010 were analyzed retrospectively. The patients were divided based on surgical procedures into groups A ( n =7, given anterior foci debridement and autograft with internal fixation ), B ( n = 10, given anterior debridement and autograft combined with posterior fixation and fusion ). The scores of Oswestry disability index ( ODI ), Japanese Orthopaedic Association ( JOA ) low back pain and SF - 36 scales were recorded in 2 groups before surgery and in the last follow - up. Results No significant difference was noted in ODI, JOA or 8 dimensions of SF - 36 scales between 2 groups before surgery and in the last follow - up ( P > 0. 05 ), but there was between pre - operation and the last follow - up in each group ( P <0. 05 ). Conclusion Both anterior and anterior with posterior debridement and autograft with internal fixation can improve the low back pain symptoms of patients with L5 ~ S1 tuberculosis and their quality of life.关键词
