Application of Ultrafitration Membrane in Paper Industry Effluent Treatment

Abstract
The application of ultrafiltration membrane in pulping and paper making wastewater treatment was studied. Several factors such as molecular weight cut off of the membrane ( MWCO) , the filtrating times, pH of the effluent etc. which might affect the ultrafiltration performance were investigated. The results showed that the chemical oxygen demand (COD) of pulping black liquor reduced to 614 mg/L and the COD of Whitewater reduced to 460 mg/L when the waste-waters were directly treated with ultrafiltration membrane without any pre-treatment. This didn't meet the discharge requirements defined in GB3544-2008. However, when the wastewaters were pre-treated with coagulation and followed by ultrafiltration with a MWCO of 2K membrane, the COD of black liquor reduced to 61 mg/L and the COD of Whitewater reduced to 49 mg/L which satisfied the discharge regulation of GB3544-2008.关键词
