Study on Mechanism of Qingqi Huatan Decoction in Treatment of Acute Exacerbation of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease by Inflammatory Cytokines

Abstract
Objective To observe the clinical effect of Qingqi Huatan decoction in treatment of acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) by reducing the level of inflammatory cytokines in plasma. Methods Eighty patients with AECOPD were randomly divided into the treatment group and the control group. The treatment group were treated by Qingqi Huatan decoction (Chinese medicine decoction of clearing away pathogenic factors and resolving phlegm) and conventional therapy as same as the control group. The treatment course was 10 days. The therapeutic effect and the level of IL-8 and TNF-α in plasma of two groups after treatment were compared. Results After treatment, the level of IL-8 and TNF-α in plasma of the two groups decreased (P<0.01). There was significant difference between the two groups (P<0.01). The therapeutic effect of the treatment group was superior to the control group (P<0.01). Conclusion Qingqi Huatan decoction can improve the symptoms of AECOPD patients, and the mechanism may be relieving inflammation by decreasing the level of inflammatory cytokines in plasma.关键词
