Abstract

A three-dimensional finite element model of hot straightening process for V150 casing was established by using the finite element analysis software ANSYS/LS-DYNA. According to this model, the distribution law of circumferential and longitudinal residual stresses after straightening was analyzed. In addition, circumferential residual stress of inner surface of the casing was measured by XRD to compare with the results of finite element simulation. The results show that circumferential and longitudinal residual stresses reveal the phenomenon of spiral contact zone, the spiral contact zone makes up an angle of 58° along longitudinal direction, which is the complementary angle of roller' tilt angle. The distance between the two adjacent contact zone is about 350 mm, which almost equals to the pitch of the straightening roller. Circumferential residual stress shows that the outer surface stress is tensile and the inner surface stress is compressive. Longitudinal residual stress shows that the outer surface stress is mainly tensile. Tensile and compressive stresses co-exist on the inner surface, and the peak of compressive stress appears in the middle of the thickness. The experimental results show that circumferential residual stress of inner surface of the casing is between -189 and -489 MPa and that of simulation results is between -130 and -480 MPa. The two results are in good agreement, which proves that the straightening model is reliable.
