Abstract

Objective To explore the impact of detection system measurement resolution ( MR) on the implemention of image reconstruction algorithms in electrical impedance tomography (EIT). Methods According to the analysis of EIT ideal boundary voltage data structure in a homogeneous field , the simulation of practical EIT systems whose MR was 0. 1, 0. 01 and 0. 001 mV was performed to explore how MR influenced the three reconstruction algorithms ;the linear back-projection (LBP) algorithm, the combined Tikhonov -Noser regularization algorithm and the landweber iterative algorithm . Imaging error function ER and structure similarity degree SSIM were introduced to evaluate the imaging effect . Results Under the same conditions , images reconstructed by Tikhonov -Noser algorithm were the best due to its smallest ER and largest SSIM while those reconstructed by LBP were the worst. Landweber algorithms couldn 't obtain any image for model A in the center of EIT field under 0. 1 mV MR, which was even inferior to LBP. When MR was 0. 01 mV or 0. 001 mV, the imaging quality was inversely proportional to the distance between the target and field boundary for LBP and Landweber algorithms . As for Tikhonov -Noser algorithms , the image quality of model B was the lowest. ER of all the three algorithms tended to increase with the number of imaging targets (two sets, B , D and C , E, F). Conclusion Different algorithms had different requirements for MR of EIT detection system. Tikhonov-Noser algorithm was effective in the EIT system with 0. 1 mV MR, and could produce better quality images when MR reached 0. 01 mV. It is advisable to use Landweber algorithm in EIT sys -tem with 0. 01 or 0. 001 mV MR according to the positions of applied targets . LBP is also able to work when MR decreases to 0. 1 mV, but it is not recommended because of its poor imaging quality when MR is enough.
