Abstract
Objective:To investigate if elderly people master the knowledge of osteoporosis. Methods: By using questionnaire survey. 315 elderly patients aged more than 60 years in Geriatric clinic were investigated to clarify their knowledge of osteoporosis. Results: Among 315 patients, 35. 2% (111/315) knew nothing about major symptoms of osteoporosis; only 22. 9% (72/315) heard about osteoporosis by the medical staffs, and 64. 4% (203/315) hoped to learn about osteoporosis- related symptoms from the medical staffs. Considering osteoporosis, 53.3% (168/315)of them worried about fractures. Among 315 patients, 48.6% (153/315) believed that the decline of life quality had the greatest impact on them. About drug treatment, the most important factor concerned by 50. 2% (158/315) was drug efficacy. Conclusions: Currently, elderly patients' knowledge about osteoporosis is inadequate. In the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis, clinicians' guiding role is important. Medical staffs should propagate the osteoporosis - prevention knowledge.关键词
