Abstract

To improve the ablation resistance of C/C composites in severe environment, C/C-ZrC composites were fabricated by inner-modification method. The structure and morphology of the composites were characterized by XRD, SEM and EDS analyses, and the effect of ZrC mass fraction on the fracture behavior of the composites was investigated by three-point bending tests. The results show that the introduced ZrC particles are distributed as nano-crystallites in C/C-ZrC composites. With the increase of ZrC mass fraction, the flexural strength of C/C-ZrC composites decreases gradually. As ZrC mass fraction improves to 36.64%, the fracture mode of the composites transforms from toughness to brittleness, and the transformation of the fracture mode is mainly contributed to the improved graphitization degree and reaction damage of the carbon fibers in the preparation process. After the heat treatment at 2 000 ℃ for 2 h, the brittleness behavior becomes more obviously.
