Effects of Four Kinds of Alcohols on Physiological Characteristics and Photosynthesis-related Gene Expression in Arabidopsis thaliana by Using in Roots

Abstract
[Objective] The paper was to study the effects of four kinds of alcohols on physiological characteristics and photosynthesis-related gene expression in Arabidopsis thaliana by using in roots.[Method] The A.thaliana seedlings were cultured in MS medium with three different concentrations (2,4,6 mmol/L) of methanol,ethanol,isopropanol,n-butyl alcohol,and the effects on the growth of A.thaliana were studied.[Result] 2-4 mmol/L of alcohols could stimulate the growth of A.thaliana seedlings,in which 2 mmol/L n-butyl alcohol had the strongest effect.The plant fresh weight compared with the control group increased by over 2.7 times after treatment for 3 weeks ; the total protein content and soluble sugar content were significantly higher than those plants treatment without alcohol,and the largest group increased by 78.5% and 58.6% compared to the control.Photosynthetic pigment content also increased,and the expression of some photosynthesis-related genes was significantly up-regulated in the treatment of alcohols.[Conclusion] The study provided molecular evidence for the theory that alcohol could promote the growth of A.thaliana.关键词
