Switching Impulse Discharge Characteristics and Altitude Corrections for Typical Long Air Gaps at High Altitude Areas

Abstract
Studying the discharge characteristics of rod-plane and rod-rod gaps and their altitude correction can not only provide references for choosing air gap distance in power projects at high altitude,but also be used for correcting air gap discharge voltages at higher altitude.Therefore,we performed standard switching impulse discharge characteristic tests for long rod-plate and rod-rod air gaps in areas at different altitudes,including 0 m,2 200 m,3 000 m,4 300 m,and 5 000 m.According to the test results,altitude correction factors of switching impulse discharge voltage were calculated and analyzed.The correction factors were calculated while extending the altitude scope of altitude correction method in IEC 60071-2 from 2 000 m to 5 000 m.Test results show that,as the altitude increases,the rod-plate and rod-rod gap switching impulse discharge voltages both get lower.The decrease of rod-rod gap discharge voltage is more remarkable than that of rod-plate gap.At 2 200 m altitude,the altitude correction factors calculated by IEC 60071-2 are basically the same as the test results.However,as the altitude increases,the difference between calculated results and experimental values becomes remarkable.At altitudes of 4 300 m and 5 000 m,with a gap distance around 2 m,the calculated results are more than 10% lower than the test results.关键词
