Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Silicon Carbide Woodceramics

Abstract
SiC woodceramics were prepared by a sintering process with the carbonaceous performs,which were prepared by slip casting and dry pressing with carbon powder from hemp straw as a starting material.The effects of type and content of the suspension stabilizers on the rheological property of carbonaceous slip in the process of slip casting were investigated.The microstructure,phase composition and mechanical properties of the SiC woodceramics were characterized with laser scanning confocal microscope,scanning electron microscope and X-ray diffractometer,respectively.The results show that the reaction of silicon and carbon during liquid silicon infiltration is complete in the SiC woodceramics by slip casting,and the volume content of free silicon in the SiC woodceramics is consistent with the theoretical value.The mechanical properties of SiC woodceramics by slip casting are superior to those by dry pressing.The micro-hardness,flexural strength,elastic modulus and fracture toughness of SiC woodceramics by slip casting are 22.3 GPa,397 MPa,290 GPa and 3.0 MPa·m1/2,respectively.关键词
