Effects of Beak Morphology on Production Performance of Laying Hens
摘要
Abstract
Effects of beak morphology after beak trimming on the laying performance and economic benefit in laying hens were studied.135 commercial layers of Hy-Line brown at the age of twenty weeks were divided into three groups with 3 replicates. The beak lengths of upper and lower mandibles of the layers in group 1 were the same and those of group 2 were similar but whose upper mandible was 3 mm shorter than that of group 1 (P < 0.05),the lower mandible was 3 mm longer than that of the upper mandible of the layers in group 3.The three groups were under the same feeding management and the experiment lasted 36 weeks. The results showed that, the body weight and shank length of group 2 were significantly lower than that of group 1 and 3 (P <0.05),and the body weight of group 1 at 25th,30th,35th and 40th week were significandy higher than that of group 2 (P < 0.05).During the period of laying (25 to 42 weeks),the laying rate of group 3 was 7.04% and 8.28% higher than that of group 1 and 2 (P < 0.05),respectively.The average egg weight of group 1 was significantly higher than that of group 2 and 3 during the laying period (25 to 42 weeks) and late period of laying (43 to 55 weeks) (P <0.05),respectively.From 20 to 55 weeks, the laying rate of group 3 was 4.46% and 4.78% higher than that of group 1 and 2 (P > 0.05),respectively.The economic benefit was analyzed and the income of one hen of group 3 was 3.06 and 2.95 yuan (RMB) higher than that of group 1 and 2.In a word, the beak morphology of layers in group 3 was in favor of production of laying hens.关键词
