Abstract

As a kind of natural macromolecule polymer,chitosan is readily available,nonpoisonous,and biodegradable.It is used in wastewater treatment increasingly and new methods and techniques have been developed.Modification is necessary for chitosan to be used as a flocculant.The mass ratio of chitosan and modified TiO2 was fixed to 3:1.The reaction was carried out at neutral conditions at 40 ℃ for 12 h.The composite flocculant was obtained by drying the product at 60 ℃.The factors of affecting the wastewater treatment ability of chitosan-TiO2 flocculant were explored.Chitosan-TiO2 flocculant can decompose the wastewater in only 200 min,showing high treatment rate.50 mL simulated wastewater can be decomposed by merely 0.25 g composite flocculant.Besides,the COD of the wastewater can also be decreased to 88.2% by this composite flocculant.Compared to chitosan,chitosanTiO2 improve its decolorization rate and COD in the process of treatment of dyeing wastewater.
