Abstract
Objective To investigate the expressions of epithelial growth factor receptor (EGFR), extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK1/2) and signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT1) in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) in order to explore their relationship with the clinical characteristics and prognosis of IPF. Methods The expressions of the proteins EGFR, STAT1 and ERK1/2 were assayed by an immunohistochemical method in 15 IPF specimens and 10 normal lung tissues. Results The expression rates of EGFR and STAT1 in the IPF group were 73. 3% and 66.7%, respectively. The stained points of EGFR and STAT1 were positively correlated with the total lung capacity, diffusion capacity and PaO2 level (all P< 0.05), but not correlated with the pathological characteristics or imaging features of high-resolution chest CT. EGFR and STAT1 were not significantly expressed in the normal lung tissues. ERK1/2 expression in the IPF group was not significantly increased compared with that in the normal lung tissues group (P>0.05). Conclusion The activation of the EGFR/STAT signal transduction pathway is closely related to the occurrence, progression and metastasis of IPF. Proteins such as EGFR and STAT1 can be used as valuable indicators for assessing the progression of IPF.关键词
