Preparation of Superabsorbent AMPS/AM/MA Terpolymer by Ultraviolet Curing Polymerization

Abstract
AMPS/AM/MA superabsorbent resin was prepared via ultraviolet curing polymerization with 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid(AMPS),acrylamide(AM) and maleic anhydride (MA) as the monomers,N,N-methylene-bis-acrylmide(NMBA) as the crosslinking agent without any initiator and protective atmosphere.The molecular structure and surface morphology of the superabsorbent resin were characterized by means of FTIR and SEM.The influences of reaction conditions on the water absorbency were investigated.The results show that the optimized preparation conditions are∶ n(AMPS) ∶ n(AM) ∶ n(MA) of 2.0 ∶ 1.5 ∶ 0.3,pH 3.4,w(NMBA) 0.06% (based on the total mass of the monomers) and the curing time 5.5 min.The optimal AMPS/AM/MA superabsorbent resin possesses the properties of water absorbency of 1 627 g/g,fast absorption rate and good water retention.关键词
