THE STUDY ON HYGROTHERMAL AGING BEHAVIOR OF COMPOSITES AND THE PREDICTION MODEL OF DURABILITY

Abstract
In this study,the effects of hygrothermal environments on the durability of glass fiber reinforced epoxy composites were investigated including physical and chemical degradation.In order to assess the durability of such systems,an investigation was undertaken in the hydrothermal conditions with different temperatures.Inter-laminar shear test and bending test were obtained periodically to study the mechanical degradation.The moisture absorption response of the composites was also determined over an 80-week period.In addition,scanning electron microscope photos of the composites were obtained before and after aging.The samples were also analyzed by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) to identify degradation products and estimate the influence of glass fiber and polymer on chemical degradation of the studied composites.The result shows in the first stage the weight gain increased gradually over time,and it was in accordance with the Fickian Law,while in the second stage,weight gain of composite dropped down.The flexural properties reduced gradually with aging time,the interface performance was seriously impact.The prediction model was set up based on the time-temperature equivalence principle and experimental data.During the later period of aging,the fracture mode was mainly delamination,so the model was modified by an interface factor,and it showed a quite good agreement with the experimental value.关键词
