摘要

Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between degree and site of carotid stenosis and cognitive impairment. Methods The cognitive function were evaluated with the montreal cognitive assessment ( MoCA) in 52 patients with transient ischemic attack (TIA) and 39 patients with lacunar cerebral infarction, and the MoCA scores were compared between the patients with different degree and site of carotid stenosis. Results The sentence retelling score in left carotid stenosis patients was significantly lower than right carotid stenosis patients ( P < 0. 01) ; and the scores of alternate link, copy the cube, drawing clock and delayed recall were significantly higher than right carotid stenosis patients (P<0. 05 -0.01). There was no statistical significance of the MoCA score between the patients with moderate and severe stenosis. Compared with right moderate stenosis and severe stenosis patients, the sentence retelling score in left moderate stenosis and severe stenosis patients were significantly lower ( all P <0. 01) ; and copy the cube, drawing clock scores were significantly higher (P < 0. 05 -0.01). The delayed recall scores in left moderate stenosis patients was significantly higher than severe stenosis patients (P < 0. 01 ) Conclusions There is language ability damage especially in left carotid stenosis; and there are execution function, visuospatial ability and delayed recall damage especially in right carotid stenosis. The degree of carotid artery stenosis has no obvious relation to cognitive impairment.
