Modification of natural zeolite by microwave assisted ammonium chloride and its application to humidity-controlling materials

摘要

Abstract

A new humidity-controlling materials with strong absorption and desorption was developed through the modification of natural zeolite microwave assisted ammonium chloride.The surface and the structures of the zeolite before and after the modification were measured by SEM (scanning electron microscope),FTIR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy) and BET.Influence of various parameters,such as the amount of ammonium chloride impregnated to samples,microwave heating time and power,temperature and humidity on the humidity-controlling capability of the modified zeolite were investigated.The moisture absorption and desorption rates of the natural zeolite was tested and compared with those of the modified zeolite.The results show that compared with the natural zeolite,the moisture absorption and desorption rates of the modified zeolite samples can be increased by 25% and 17%,respectively,when it is modified by 3% saturated ammonium chloride and 100 W microwave heated for 3 minutes.The modified zeolite is able to maintain humidity in the range of 56.8% to 60.3% in the changing humidity conditions.
