Abstract
Objective To assess the need of Undergraduates for orthodontic treatment of dental health and beautiful in Shihezi university by using the malocclusion severity index (MSI).Methods Using Stratified randomized sampling method,a total of 677 college students aged 18～25 were selected including male (364) and female (313) with an average age of 22.5 years old.Results Male MSI score was 14.85±12.23,female MSI score was 14.93±11.77,as a comparisonPreparatio between two means to t=0.094,P＞0.05,MSI scores have no statistical significance in gender.According to the classification of MSI,there are 35.99％ male undergraduates who need orthodontic treatment,while 38.98％ female undergraduates in same condition.Male and female orthodontic treatment requirements carried by the chi-square testx2 =0.642,P ＞0.05,no difference between gender.Conclusion The undergraduates have more need for orthodontic treatment in Shihezi University,prevention and propaganda should be strengthened.MSI as a screening criterion is feasible,reliable to evaluate the need for orthodontic treatment and worthy of promotion.关键词
