Abstract

Test pit experiments were conducted to study the effects of drought stress in different growth stages on plant height,leaf area,grain yield and water use efficiency (WUE) of summer maize.The results showed that the plant height,leaf area index (LAI) and stem diameter were influenced significantly by soil moisture.The plant height and LAI of summer maize decreased with the deepening of drought stress before tasseling,while the LAI decreased earlier under drought stress after tasseling.The stem diameter of summer maize also decreased with the deepening of drought stress,and the effect of water deficit on stem diameter decreased with the development of summer maize.The grain yield and water consumption of summer maize decreased significantly and WUE increased under severe water deficit in each growth stage.Compared with other treatments,WUE under medium water deficit was the highest.
