EFFECTS OF VERBASCOSIDE AND MARTYNOSIDE ON PROTECTING MYOCARDIUM AND SKELETAL MUSCLE CELL’S MITOCHONDRIA FROM THE DAMAGE MADE BY PEROXIDATION IN INCREASING TRAINED RATS

Abstract
Objective: To study the effects of verbascoside and martynoside on protecting myocardium and skeletal muscle cell’s mitochondria from the damage made by peroxidation in increasing trained rats. Methods:Forty rats were randomly divided into 4 groups as normal group, exercise group, exercise+verbascoside group and exercise + martynoside group with ten mice in each group to study the effects of verbascoside and martynoside on superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and malonyldialdehyde (MDA) levels of cardiac muscle and skeletal muscle mitochondria in over-trained rats. Results: The SOD activities of myocardial mitochondria in cardiac muscle in the exercise+verbascoside group and exercise+martynoside group were higher than those of the exercise group (P < 0.01), while the levels of MDA were opposite. The levels of MDA of myocardial mitochondria in cardiac muscle in the exercise + verbascoside group were higher than these of the exercise +martynoside group (P < 0.01), but there are no significant difference in the SOD activities of myocardial mitochondria in cardiac muscle between these two groups (P > 0.05). The SOD activities of myocardial mitochondria in skeletal muscle in the exercise group were lower than these of the exercise+verbascoside group (P < 0.01), but there are no significant difference in the SOD activities of myocardial mitochondria in skeletal muscle between the exercise group and exercise + martynoside group (P > 0.05). The levels of MDA of myocardial mitochondria in skeletal muscle in the exercise group were significantly higher compared with the exercise + verbascoside group and exercise + martynoside group (P< 0.01). The SOD activities of myocardial mitochondria in skeletal muscle in the exercise + verbascoside group were higher than these of the exercise +martynoside group (P<0.01), but the levels of MDA were opposite (P>0.05). Conclusion:Verbascoside and martynoside were found to have significant effects in increasing SOD activity, facilitating free radicals removal, and thus protecting the myocardial mitochondria in cardiac muscle and skeletal muscle from free radical damage. Verbascoside was more active than martynoside.关键词
