Therapeutic effects of edaravone on postoperative encephaledema due to intracranial tumors treated with γ-knife and its influences on level of serum TNF-α

Abstract
Objective To investigate the therapeutic effects of edaravone on postoperative encephaledema due to intracranial tumors treated with γ-knife.Methods Seventy-eight patients with intracranial tumors treated withγ-knife radiation were randomly divided into treatment group (n =40) and control group (n =38).Electrolyte disturbances in all patients were corrected during treatment.The control group was treated with mannitol and dexamethasone sodium phosphate,while the treatment group was added edaravone based on the treatment of the control group.The clinical effects,incidence of adverse reactions and levels of serum tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) before and after treatment were observed in both groups.Results The total effectiveness rate of the treatment group (92.5％) was significantly higher than that of the control group (68.4％).There was no significant difference between the incidences of adverse reactions in both groups.The statistical significance was not presented regarding the levels of serum TNF-α in both groups before treatment (the next day of hospitalization),whereas 14 d after treatment,the levels of serum TNF -α in 2 groups decreased obviously compared with those before treatment,and the decreased range of treatment group was larger.Conclusion Edaravone has notable therapeutic effects on postoperative encephaledema due to intracranial tumors treated with γ-knife,which may be associated with the decrease of serum TNF-α.关键词
