Comparison of literary thoughts between Emerson and Allan Poe

摘要
Abstract
In view of the reverse styles between Ralph Waldo Emerson and Edgar Allan Poe in Ameri-can literary history of 19th century, comparative analyses were made to analyze the literary thoughts they each preached and practiced in their works. Findings show that Emerson represented the mainstream of American literature history, while Poe went against the tradition and the trend of the times. Therefore, Poe was refused by the society of his times. However, both Emerson and Poe’s thoughts, which play a vital role in American history, have greatly contributed to the development of American literature.关键词
