Impact of Family Social Status on Mental Health:Mediating Role of Belief in a Just World

Abstract
Objective:The purpose of this study was to explore the impacts of family social status on college students'mental health variables,with the mediating effects of belief in a just world.Methods:A self-reported questionnaire survey was conducted to collect 5845 college students' data of their family,social states,belief in a just world,subject well-being and anxiety and depression.Results:①Mental health and belief in a just world of students from higher social status family were better than those from lower social status family significantly.②There were significant positive correlations between family social status,belief in a just world,and subject well-being and positive affect,and significant negative correlations between family social status,belief in a just world,and negative affect such as anxiety and depression.③Belief in a just world could partially mediate the relationship between family social status and mental health of college students.Conclusion:Belief in a just world is important to maintain mental health,especially for those students from lower social status family.关键词
