Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression level of serum miR-106b in hepatocellular carcinoma ( HCC) patients and to discuss its clinical value. Methods The expression levels of serum miR-106b of 47 HCC patients, 31 healthy controls and 22 chronic liver disease patients were detected by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). The relationship between the serum miR-106b level of the patients and their clinical parame-ters was analyzed. The diagnostic value of the serum miR-106b level was analyzed by receiver operating characteris-tic (ROC) curve. Results Compared with healthy controls and chronic liver disease patients, serum miR-106b level was significantly higher in HCC patients ( P<0.01 ) . The serum miR-106 b level was strongly correlated with&nbsp;tumor differentiation, TNM stages and vascular invasion ( P<0.05 ) . ROC curve analyses revealed that the area under the curve (AUC) of serum miR-106b was 0.868 in discriminating HCC from healthy controls with a sensitiv-ity of 87.2% and a specificity of 74.2%, while the AUC was 0.791 in discriminating HCC from chronic hepatitis or cirrhosis with a sensitivity of 72.3% and a specificity of 77.3%. Conclusion The expression level of serum miR-106b in HCC patients was significantly up-regulated, and it might be a useful diagnostic and prognostic bio-marker for HCC.
