Abstract
Oil-valve style ultra-high-frequency (UHF) method applies to on line detecting partial discharges (PDs) in transformers. The frequency band and position of UHF detection equipment are the two key factors that affect its sensitivity. The round waveguide theory is used to analyze UHF propagation characters, simulations and experiments are carried out to study the propagation and attenuation of UHF in oil-valve. Research works show that the frequency components of UHF electromagnetic wave lower than the cutoff frequency of TE11 wave attenuates seriously in oil-valve, while the rest of frequency components almost no attenuation. A method was proposed to improve the sensitivity of Oil-valve style UHF detecting system, that is, the sensor should be placed as close as possible to the inner wall of the transformer; the lower cut-off frequency of the detecting system should not be lower than the cutoff frequency of the dominant mode. These conclusions are important to improve on line PD detection technique in transformers.关键词
