Effects of White Distillers’ Grains Supplemental Level on Performance, Nutrient Apparent Digestibility and Serum Biochemical Indices of Goats

Abstract
This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of white distillers’ grains supplemental lev-el on performance, nutrient apparent digestibility and serum biochemical indices of goats in order to determine the optimal supplemental level of white distillers’ grains in diets for goats.Forty eight four-month-old goats with an average body weight of ( 17 .77 ±4 .20 ) kg were randomly assigned to 4 groups, and each group had 12 goats ( half male and half female) .The goats in the 4 groups were fed the experimental diets containing 0 ( control group) , 10%, 20% and 30%of white distillers’ grains, respectively.The experiment lasted for 57 days, and the amount of feeding was restricted to 1.0 kg/(goat· d).The results showed as follows:the 10%supplemental group had the highest average net gain, average daily gain, dressing percentage and pure meat percentage, the best economic benefit and the lowest feed/gain, and the dressing percentage and pure meat percentage in 10% supplemental group were significantly higher than those in control group (P<0.05).The 10% supplemental group had the highest apparent digestibility of dry matter, metabolizable energy, crude pro-tein, neutral detergent fiber, phosphorus, and the apparent digestibility of dry matter and metabolizable energy in 10% supplemental group were significantly higher than those in 30% supplemental group (P<0.05).No significant differences were found in average net gain, average daily gain, feed/gain and nutrient apparent di-gestibility among 30%supplemental group and control group ( P>0.05).In addition, there was no signifi-cant difference in serum total protein content among all groups (P>0.05), but the serum urea nitrogen con-tent in 30% supplemental group was significantly higher than that in control group and 10% supplemental group ( P <0 .05 ) .It is concluded that the supplemental levels of white distillers ’ grains in diets less than 30%have no adverse effects on performance and nutrient apparent digestibility of goats.Overall consideration, the diet supplemented with 10%white distillers’ grains has the best effect for goats.关键词
