Abstract
Silver-loaded montmorillonite was preparedvia an ion exchange method and a chemical reduction method with silver ni-trate and montmorillonite as a silver precursor and a carrier, respectively. The silver content range in Ag/MMT determined by Mohr method is 0.5%-3.0%. The morphology and structure of as-synthesized specimens were characterized by X-ray diffraction, solid UV (UV-visible) absorbent scanning electron microscopy, and Zeta potential analysis, respectively. The results show that silver nanopar-ticles are inserted into the interlayer space of montmorillonite, and the structure of MMT does not change. Moreover, the samples exhibit effective catalytic and high selectivity for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) in the presence of excess NaBH4 in water. The reaction process accords with the pseudo-first-order kinetics. In addition, the degradation rate is approximately 100% within 15min. The Ag-deposited MMT catalyst nanoparticles still remain active even after they are reused for 23 cycles.关键词
