Abstract

Fluent 6.2 of CFD was used to simulate the flow fields of a series of deflector-porous fences with different porosities, and to calculate the distributions of velocity, pressure and turbulence intensity on the dust stock surface. In addition, the influence of the fence porosity on the dust suppression was investigated. The results show that two velocity recirculation zones can be found obviously behind the porous fence and its range gradually decreases as the fence porosity increases; and the velocity on the surface of the prism toward wind increases generally, while it decreases on the leeward surface. The wind-fence with porosity of 30%can efficiently reduce the wind velocity on the dust stock surface to 7.1% of the wind velocity before the fence. It can be concluded that the porous fence with the porosity of 30%has a good performance of the dust suppression.
