Abstract

Since frequency of the analysis component of Subsynchronous Oscillation (SSO) problem is neither at the power frequency nor within the range of low frequency, Quasi-Steady-State (QSS) model cannot be used to analyze SSO. For the same reason, we also cannot consider the analysis component of SSO as electricity signals at power frequency with low frequency modulation to analyze SSO problem. The dynamic model TCSC must be effective throughout the whole frequency range of SSO. Hence, verification of the suitability of TCSC dynamic model is of great significance. This paper proposes a method to verify the suitability of TCSC dynamic model through comparing damping characteristics throughout the whole frequency range of SSO. On one hand, sample-data model of TCSC is adopted, and small signal analysis method is utilized to establish state space matrices of system. Then a series of matric transformation is applied so as to obtain electrical damping characteristics of system. On the other hand, time simulation model is constructed in PSCAD, where the model of TCSC is precise to the device-level. Then, test signal method is adopted to obtain electrical damping characteristics of system. Finally, electrical damping characteristics obtained by the two methods are compared. The simulation result shows that the sample-data-based model of TCSC is accurate and suitable for the analysis of SSO problem.
