Abstract
Objective To investigate the clinical significance of community health education in home -based treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus ( T2DM) with insulin.Method A education program was planned for 120 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus , which included seminars and films on treating the disease with insulin at home and tutorials about how to use insulin pen and blood glucose monitor correctly .Related indicators before and after health education of diabetes mellitus, patients’ knowledge of diabetes and insulin , actions on doctor's advice, and fasting blood sugar level were recorded and compared .Findings Poor awareness of diabetes mellitus was found of patients before health education (54. 79%), which became significantly higher after 12 months of health education (84.59%).The difference was significant (P<0.01).Before and after health education, patients’ actions on doctor's advice rose from 64.67% to 92.67%. Fasting plasma glucose (FPG), 2h postprandial blood glucose (2h PG) and glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c) were close to normal level after health education .There were significant differences before and after health education .Conclusion Community health education for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus treated at home with insulin can improve blood sugar control, delay secondary diseases of diabetes and enhance the quality of life .关键词
