Abstract
This paper analysed the main clear zone design parameters, that is, driver reaction time, conditions of vehicle leaving roadway and the driving distance in the clear zone. Based on the tolerance forgiving design concept, this paper set up a calculation model for the roadside clear zone. Combined with the actual instance of roadside situation,the recommended width of roadside clear zone was brought forward. Compared with RISER’s (roadside infrastructure for safer European roads) research, the paper’s conclusion is partial safety, and similar to AASHTO’s (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials) research. The conclusions of the study could be a supplementary reference for road designers and administrator.关键词
