Abstract

Using forest ecosystem model FORECAST ,the net primary productivity ( NPP) and forest car-bon storage in the mixture of Phoebe bournei with Chinese fir were simulated with various management scenarios including different site qualities and mixing proportions (5∶1,4∶1,3∶1,1∶1 and 1∶3 between Phoebebournei and Chinese fir) over the simulation period of 300 years.The simulations suggested that the total cumu-lative carbon storages in both stem and above-ground forest components were the greatest with the mixing pro-portion of 3∶1.The soil carbon storage in the pure Phoebe bournei forest and the Phoebe bournei-Chinese fir mixed forests with mixed proportion of Phoebe bournei being higher than 1∶1 was on the increasing trend over the simulation period of 300 years,while those in pure Chinese fir forest and the Phoebe bournei-Chinese fir mixed forests with the mixed proportion of 1∶3 was on the decreasing trend .Compared with those in low quali-ty sites,the carbon storages in high quality sites were higher .It might be concluded that the best mixed propor-tion of Phoebe bournei with Chiense fir is 3∶1,which is beneficial for sustaining or improving soil carbon stor-age in the long run .
