摘要

Abstract

Disposing of the increasing amounts of municipal solid waste in an appropriate manner is one of the urgent issues that must be tackled if sustainable development is to be achieved. Landifl is one waste management option that is both economically and technically attractive. However, how best to prevent the waste, and its harmful byproducts, from migrating into the surrounding environment during landfill operations remains a key problem, and requires careful consideration during the design stage of such facilities. A multiple hydraulic barrier consists of geocomposite and geosynthetic clay liner sheets that must be placed in both the cover and liner systems of landifl s to prevent contamination of the surrounding environment. The mechanical properties of these composite interfaces and the potential failure surfaces, which are of crucial importance in the safety of the whole landifl , have been the focus of industry research efforts. This paper focuses on recently published research into the mechanical properties of the composite interface in the base liner and cover systems of landifl s, and presents related theoretical analysis and discussion.
