Abstract
To avoid the shock to power systems due to unnecessary shedding of large generator, this paper proposed a novel stator-ground fault protection principle based on grounding currents for large generators. A method of calculating grounding currents was derived from the zero-sequence equivalent circuit of generators with single-phase ground faults. If the grounding current exceeds the allowable value, the protection would trip immediately, otherwise it would only send warning signals to inform the operator to remove faults. Besides, to reduce the repair time, an automatically locating method for stator ground faults was presented according to the features of stator windings of multi-branch large generators. The method can detect the faulted phase, faulted branch and faulted coils. The detailed process and implementing scheme were given. A model that can simulate inner ground faults of generator was built. The simulation results verify the validity and rationality of the proposed protection method. The accuracy of the fault location method is proved.关键词
