Abstract

By means of a customized thermogravimetric analysis system that can measure the weight change of samples at constant temperature, the influence of steam on the limestone calcination/carbonation cyclic reactions were studied. Results show that steam reduces the sorbent activity during calcination, while it greatly increases carbonation conversion ratio during the carbonation (for instance, the ratio at the eighth cycle is 29.43% with 20% steam, but only 19.46% without steam). The carbonation ratios of sorbents are very similar whenever both calcination and carbonation contain 20% steam or only 20% steam present in carbonation stage. But, the effect is not added together of the results of two stage separately-steam only in calcination and only in carbonation. Taking steam into consideration, calcinations at 900~950 ℃ and carbonation at 700 ℃ is the optimum reaction temperature for the tested limestone.
