Abstract

Gas phase organic compounds in mainstream cigarette smoke were monitored by ion molecule reaction mass spectrometry (IMR-MS) combined with rotary smoking machine RM20H. Quantitative analysis methods were established for some important compounds in Hoffmann list including NO, 1,3-butadiene, isoprene, benzene, toluene. Repeatability performance in one day and in different days showed that all RSD were less than 15%, except the last puff which was characterized by different smoke amount. Using the method to determine standard cigarettes 2R4F, 1R5F and 3R4F, and to compare results with those from published papers showed that IMR-MS method is accurate, rapid and stable.
