Abstract
Objective To investigate the efficacy of endolymphatic sac decompression (ELSD) for the treatment of Ménière’s disease and to study indications for the procedure and factors affecting the outcome. Methods Seventy one pa-tients who underwent ELSD from 1996 to 2011 were followed up. Recurrent vertigo and useful hearing were confirmed be-fore the surgery. Follow up included telephone and mail surveys. Results Quality of life was reportedly improved in 87.69%, remained unchanged in 3.08%and deteriorated in 9.23%of the patients. Quality of life (QOL) scores were not cor-related to age, gender, follow-up duration, or duration of disease, but to preoperative hearing status and audiogram patterns. Conclusion QLSD can effectively control vertigo and improve quality of life. The procedure seems to be more effective in patients with Stage 2 or 3 hearing than in those with stage 4 hearing. It is also more effective in patients with rising curve au-diogram than others.关键词
